[so cheap, so easy]: Stella's Tutu Crib Skirt

When I put Stella's bedding together (what seems like a long, long time ago), I first picked out the sheets and the fabric for the bumper, and then needed a crib skirt to match those things. Of course, I couldn't find anything I liked (surprise, surprise), so I improvised. I asked my friend Sarah if she would help me sew it. I so foolishly assumed that since she owned a sewing machine that she knew how to use it. I knew we were in trouble when I showed up, and she and her hubby had the instruction manual out and were trying to thread the thing. Of course, I was no help! Luckily, she had a neighbor who was able to get it threaded for us!

I bought a plain white crib skirt, then bought enough tulle to go around three sides. (Thinking back, I probably bought more than enough to go all the way around, since I always buy way too much fabric. What most likely happened is that I was over the project half-way through and decided that I didn't need to cover the back of the crib skirt. That sounds more like me.) Anywho, I doubled the tulle, and stitched it to the top of the crib skirt. I was going for a tutu, fluffy, puffy look, but of course, the crib itself kind of restricts the tulle from being fluffy or puffy. I think Sarah and I did a good job for not having a clue, just don't look too closely! Either way, I have loved it, and it was super cheap, which is a good thing, because here's another surprise for you: I'm ready for a change!

(And yes, that is a bare mattress in the second picture. Trust me, it's just easier that way while we're potty training. You never know what you're going to wake up to in the mornings. Don't worry, I put a blanket down for Stella to lay on. It's awful, I know. It sounds like I'm training a puppy. We do take her out of her cage to feed her and walk her, though.)
