So I Lied...

So there I was, in a weak moment, eating Stella's pink Starburst from the package she had chosen at the store earlier that day. As I dumped the remainder of the Starburst into her reward jar, I thought to myself, She will never even know there were pink in this package. And then, I started to think about all of the other lies that I've told her in her three short years and how someday, she's going to have several moments of realizing her mommy may have not have always been so truthful like...The day she discovers pink Starbursts, and how they are way better than the yellow and orange and even the red. Or, when she realizes that Cool Whip is definitely not the same thing as ice cream, even when it has sprinkles and is served in a cone. Or, that she won't go bald if she twirls her hair. She'll realize that nachos are made with chips and WAY more cheese than I use on her nachos that are made of Triscuits and mozzarella cheese. She'll realize that her teeth won't fall out, and that her thumb won't fall off if she sucks on it.  Sheesh...I have a lot of explaining to do. This mommy's pants are a little bit on fire, are yours?! (This is when you tell me the lies you tell to your children and make me feel normal...)

  2. haha! I lie on a daily bases. It's either telling Sadie " a big ugly scary man will steal you away if you run away from mommy in the store" or at bedtime to keep her in bed "we can go swimming tomorrow if you stay in your bed" i tell her that even though the pools not open yet. it's probably mean, but she never stays in her bed anyways, so I feel like I'm really not lying...right? hopefully they'll forget we do these things,...

  3. Aww, how cute is Stella?! Precious girl.

And maybe pink Starbursts are for mommy's-only, anyway? Not to be enjoyed by anyone under the age of, let's say, 25- when they can be fully appreciated? (Does that white lie even work?) ;)

  5. I told my daughter that the ice cream truck was the music truck and wasn't it nice that they share their music with us!! That worked for a while until the neighbor kids let her in on the goodness the music truck brings!!

  6. Okay, I'm super curious about the cool whip thing because that sounds better to me. :)

Sometimes we have to lie as a mom. For safety or other reasons. But sometimes we have to apologize too. I just wish my apologies weren't so often. If it helps, my kids are mostly grown now (youngest is 17) and I can't remember the lies I've told them (although I'm sure there have been plenty). Fingers crossed that they don't remember either! LOL

    1. Definitely! As for the Cool Whip...when I was potty training and needing a daily bribe, I would give Stella "ice cream" which was frozen Cool Whip. I even put it in a cone and added sprinkles. Seriously, I was such a cool mom for letting her have ice cream all the time. I mean, really, who doesn't love Cool Whip? Plus, it's hardly any sugar/calories even with the cone. Win, win!!

  8. The cool whip story is hysterical!! I know I told all sorts of creative whoppers to get them to do stuff, but it doesn't work anymore. Teenagers are a lot more savvy than toddlers. Hahaha!

  9. Haha. This is funny. Keep up all the good work you are doing in spite of your little lies ~ yea, I probably used them on my kids, too. But like Michelle above me, it doesn't work on teenagers or older. Lies aren't good, so why do we use them?
