Upholstered Headboards and the Need for Sleep

Remember that day last week when I was totally bragging about how productive I was? Yeah, that happened once...and it's not looking too promising for it to happen again. Baby Salem is such a good sleeper. She only wakes up 2-3 times per night (one of those times being 6:00 a.m., which is clearly not nighttime, but it still feels like it to me at this point). My problem is that I wake up and can't go back to sleep. Anyone else have that issue? This may be the reason that I only have one thing on the brain today: beds. These are amazing, but who am I kidding? At this point, I'd settle for a blanket on the floor!

Mixing Prints | Rules, Schmules

A lot of people are scared of mixing prints. And, as with most other things in design, the "rules" are more of guidelines, and at the end of the day, all that really matters is that it looks good to YOU.  If you don't believe me, and you're still a little scurred, here are a few of my tips:

1| If you're not sure if your prints match, try matching your colors. Monochromatic prints will definitely work, and luckily, most fabric lines produce several patterns in the same color, so the work is already done for you. 

2| Find a print you like, and then pull one or two of the colors to find a coordinating print. For example, try starting with a floral print, then add a geometric print in one of the colors from the floral print (i.e. stripes and florals or dots).

3| Think about the scale of the print. Usually, a small scale print pairs best with a larger scale print, and large, contrasting prints (and colors) work well, too. Lots of small scale prints can be too busy and can overwhelm the eye. 

4| When all else fails, don't think at all, just mix as you please!

Sarah Richardson, Ms. King Midas

One of my favorite designers is Sarah Richardson. Everything this woman touches, turns to gold (hence that catchy title, haha). I absolutely love her style, and her ability to mix prints is just amazing. She always picks the most luscious fabrics. (That was a little dramatic, but, let's be honest, they are indeed, luscious.)  I also love the fact that she is Canadian, because, well Canadians are cool if for no other reason than the way they say about and the way they spell colour. What can I say? I'm easily impressed.

Save the Drama for THIS Mama: Tall Headboards

I love a little drama in the bedroom.  And size, yes, size does matter, especially in the bedroom. I say the bigger, the better. It's all about the headboard, people...ALL about the headboard. (You knew that's where I was going with that, right? Of course you did. I only talk about the most important topics on this blog.) I love these headboards, and the height is just right, not too tall. They are all absolutely gorgeous. In fact, if you are looking to surprise me, I would be happy with any of these three. Just here to help.

Completely Functional

Know what I do a lot of? Wash sheets. Know what I really don't like to do? Wash sheets. I like to get up in the morning and make the beds. But, Little Miss is still in pull ups at night, and quite frankly, I think she has the largest bladder in the world, because when she goes, she REALLY goes. Sometimes the pull-up contains it, sometimes the sheets need a washin'. My point with all this bladder and pee pee talk is that if I just had two beds, I could really just save myself some time. More accurately, I'd save Stella from sleeping on her bed without sheets when I forget to take the sheets out of the washer. And, let's be honest, two beds is just about the cutest thing ever. And functional. Completely functional.

[color kreyv]: Regal Blue

So there I was about to start work on a design board, when I came across these West Elm panels (pictured below). They are so uh-maze-ing. Besides the fact that they are regal blue, (sounds so fancy), they are absolutely gorgeous--stunning, even. And now, I must design the room around my newfound love: regal blue. (She said with a rolled r as she raised her head up high and raised one fist into the air...) I know. I'm a nerd. Just one big regal nerd.

Bamboo Shades. Love. Them.

I have really been loving bamboo shades for quite some time now. Of course, it would make no sense to get too serious about them since we're moving...and renting...and will probably rent again. I'll just blog about them instead and hope that these pictures will inspire someone. That someone could then buy said shades, and I can just live vicariously through him/her. If you're not convinced, here's why you should love them: 

The naturalness.  I think that every room should have something from nature or something that looks like it could be from nature (i.e. rocks, sticks, coral, bamboo, flowers, etc.) 

The texture. Adding different textures to a room makes the room feel collected, warm, and gives the space personality.

And lastly...well, there's really no competition between these and the standard white mini-blinds that currently adorn my windows. Are you convinced? I want them even more than I did before I wrote this post. Man, I'm convincing.

I've had this color palette on the mind lately as an option for Stella's room. Little Miss is getting ready to transition to a big girl bed, and of course, I can't just get a new bed. She obviously needs a new room. Her room is so 2.5 years ago, AND I may or may not have a little bit of decor ADD. We'll just blame it on Stella and her needs as a two and a half year old. Don't judge. The hubs seems to be going along with it, so I say let's give the girl a new room.

Tufted Headboards

I've been seeing a lot of tufted headboards lately, and I absolutely love them! They just say luxury, don't they? The headboards are just the right combination of traditional meets contemporary. IF I had a guest room, and IF I needed a bed for my guest room, I would choose one with a tufted headboard! Although, maybe that would make people stay too long. Perhaps I should rethink this!
