Smoke Detectors & Vaulted Ceilings

So, it happened. I knew it was only a matter of time. The battery of the smoke detector in our bedroom died. And so the chirping began. At 2:00 in the morning. Why does that always happen in the middle of the night--in the room with the vaulted ceilings? Of course, we don't own a ladder, so I had to stand on Jeremy's shoulders. I didn't know what I was doing and accidentally pressed the test button, so that every single alarm in the entire house went off.  I could hardly reach, but I was able to pull out the battery--which we all know does not stop the chirping.  (Remember the Friends episode with Phoebe and the smoke detector?!) Luckily, we had a battery, and  we were able to make the switch. You know, you never know when your high school cheerleading skills are going to come in handy.  And, I'm just sure that Jeremy really appreciated my, "Ready one two's" at two in the morning. But, in spite of the three ring circus in our bedroom last night, I still LOVE vaulted ceilings. Check out these lovelies.

P.S. Remind me to buy a ladder when we move...

[color kreyv]: Pink

I was going to say pink AND gray, but quite honestly, I'm not a hundred percent sure what color is in all of the pictures. I'm using the laptop tonight, and either I'm not used to it, or my eyes are not great.  It could be a combination of the two, but I'm going to blame it on the computer. I'm in total denial about my eyesight.  I love the different hues of pink.  Pink is actually super versatile, which is why I love it. It can go in any room from nursery to living room.  But hey, don't take my word for it, I can't even see which rooms are gray and which rooms are tan. Either way, pink looks great with both!

[color kreyv]: Charcoal Gray

Holy cow, I'm glad we made it to Wednesday! Both Salem and Stella have been sick with fevers.  They are finally feeling better, but I'll be honest, there's a whole lot of mucus goin' on up in herrr. It's gross.

Speaking of not gross, how much do we love charcoal gray? I love that it pops against white like black does, but it's not as harsh as black can sometimes be. It's almost black, but it's not.  (That was a super deep statement, wasn't it?!) Hey, let's take what we can get after four days of being with kids in bed watching Barbie ten jillion times in a row, shall we?

P.S. My favorite charcoal is Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams.

[color kreyv]: Navy Blue

I know this is a shocker, but I want everything in these pictures. I am seriously considering changing my bathroom vanities to navy. Yumm-ee. Speaking of blue, let's talk about the awkward party and the blue jeans I wore to said party--a "casual work get-together" according to Jeremy.  Yeah...not so much.  We walked into the room, and people were in suits, tuxes, cocktail dresses, and even a few floor-length gowns…and there I was in my faded jeans.  It. Was. Awesome. Nothing like an awkward party to get the year started off right.

Colorful Couches

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a good weekend. I did--mostly because I got a brand new, super cute, practically perfect nephew. Oh, and I had lunch with some of my favorite people and later ate sushi at a totally awkward party. Good stuff, and I mean everything, not just the sush. (Yes, I call it sush, which is a super awesome word, because it can be both a noun and a verb (ie. Do you sush?).

Anyway…that was so far off topic, that I had to start a new paragraph. Colorful couches: I love them. I've always thought it would be fun to have one in a sitting room. We are actually going to have a sitting room in our new house, but it's not going to be a sitting room.  It's going to be a roller skating/ballet/piano with no piano room. Yup, it's going to be empty. Completely. Empty.  Sigh…no green couch for me! Oh well, I could really stand to improve on my roller skating skills.

Steel Windows

Know what I LOVE--besides the fact that all ten seasons of Friends is now on Netflix? I love black steel windows. I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but that's how much I love them: enough to mention them twice. Or three times. Seven times tops. I was completely bummed out that we couldn't get them for our house. I can't remember if it's because they were not available through our builder or that they cost thousands of dollars. Either way, not available. Steel windows are amazing--I love how the black is so sharp and clean and everything else I love about lines and black and squares and the combination of everything I just mentioned. I mean really, could there BE anything better?

Windows for Days

Oh my gosh, who else has eaten their kids' Halloween candy all. Weekend. Long?! Yeah, chocolate is so awesome. Stella does ask for a "Stella tax," so I do have to steal share the candy in secrecy, but I'm pretty good at that. In other news, raise your hand if you are absolutely in love with these windows. (You do know I'm raising my hand, right?!) I would love windows like this.  Of course, I would have to have window coverings, because everyone knows when it gets dark at night, and you can't see out, people are looking in. I'm not paranoid, I just really don't need people watching me devour my kids' Halloween candy.

[color kreyv]: Neutral, Neutral, & Neutral

First of all, can we even believe that October is almost over? How did that happen? Christmas is going to be here before we know it.  Yes, I said it. It's true. Know what else is true?  These rooms are to. Die. For. To die for. Yes, to die for twice. You know I love me a neutral palette. The trick is to add lots of textures and various shades and layers of neutrals. Doing these things will ensure that the space is lived in, warm, and homey rather than stark and impersonal--because let's be honest, nobody likes a snobby room.

[color kreyv]: Pink

According to Stella, yesterday was the best day ever. She started preschool (I cried, she didn't.); I bought her a kids' meal from Chick-Fil-A, and the toy was, apparently, the coolest thing ever; she got to visit Daddy at the clinic; and she got to go to the dentist, which she loves. I have to agree with Stella and say that yesterday was, indeed, pretty awesome. I had a cookies and cream shake to help drown my sorrows from the preschool drop-off, and I also got to take a nap. It wasn't a long one, but it was a nap. Best. Day. Ever.

TV's and Fireplaces. And Husbands with Opinions.

So, the hubs and I have been discussing TVs and fireplaces lately. It's actually not my first choice to have the TV over the fireplace, but that's kind of where a lot of floor plans make you put it, and I'm fine with that. The debate is all about the size. Obviously, the TV most definitely cannot be as wide as the fireplace. (Ummm, hello, right?) I am really insisting on at least 10-12 inches on each side. Of course, Hubs disagrees, because, well, apparently the size of your TV is directly associated with the level of manliness you possess. I mean, don't get me wrong. I want to see the real housewives on a big screen just as much as the next person, but I've never been one to put function in front of aesthetics. Sigh. Here I go having to compromise again...which means we're going to need a larger fireplace.

[color kreyv]: Emerald Green

How absolutely gorgeous is emerald green? I love it. It is so bold, refreshing, and sophisticated. I think I have pinned the first image at least three times. I want those chairs for my own dining room table. I'm pretty sure that if I had those chairs, all I'd need is a crown--and I'm really not opposed to that.

[color kreyv]: Navy & Peach

I am a sucker for navy, and I love adding a pale peach or pink to the mix. It's kind of got a hard and soft thing going on. Speaking of hard and soft, my soft baby is crying really hard, so...gotta run.  In summary: peach, navy, good.

[color kreyv]: Pink

Clearly, we can't get away with calling this plain, old pink, but whether or not the colors below are more of a blush or a salmon is debatable. I really just couldn't decide.  I personally think the first picture has both. Regardless, I think we can all agree on the fact that this color is definitely beautiful, and that I can, indeed, type an entire post with one hand while holding Salem with the other.

[color kreyv]: Black & Navy

Remember back in the day when navy and black was a total no-no? Well, as you know, that is SO not the case anymore. That's what I love about design and fashion. You don't have to worry about your forest green and peach getting mixed up with your country blue and dusty rose, you can mix them together, if you're ever so inclined. (Remember how cool those colors were in the 90's?!) Navy and black is a do-as-you-please combination and definitely a yes in my book. Check out these stunners.

[color kreyv]: Black & White

Four words: black and white; yes and please. Enough said. (Oh, and I'm not counting the ands in my four words. Just making sure you all know I can, indeed, count.)
