What's Your Favorite Color?

Is your favorite color in your home? Is this same color in your wardrobe? I thought about this last night when I ordered four new shirts: two white, one cream, and one mint. I'll be honest, the mint one was a stretch for me, and though I really like it, I ordered it, because I "need" more color in my wardrobe.  I know. I'm crazy like that, buying a mint shirt and all. Anyway, there's a point to this post...

This same thing happens all the time with design clients. They tell me that they really like certain colors, but that they "need" to use something different in the next room.  Here are my thoughts: You don't "need" to use different colors in every room. If you are drawn to certain colors, use those colors in your home. I love all of these rooms from the very colorful, to the pastel, to the neutral. But, I am definitely drawn to some more than others. Buy what you like, just because you like it, not because it's a certain color that you "need". I promise you, you'll like your house a lot better, because it will be more you. Plus, you won't end up painting a room yellow, and then covering it up with tan the very next day. I've heard that's kind of a bummer.  What's your favorite color?

[color kreyv]: Red & Pink

Red and pink, you say? Yes, it can be done. Tastefully. I mean, I probably won't be installing wall to wall pink shag carpet in my house anytime soon, but if it's your thing, own it! In other news, Valentine's Day is tomorrow. Have big plans?!

Rooms (and Lights) for Two

Hey there! How was your long weekend (if you had one)? Ours was fun and busy; although, yesterday, I had major headaches and nausea. Don't feel bad for me, though, I'm afraid I did it to myself. Hubs and I had this bright idea of staying up into all hours of the night/morning finishing season one of The Following. Have you seen it? It's intense…and Netflix is bad news for intense shows. I mean, why stop at one episode when you have the entire season at your disposal? Who cares about real life? Just keep watching. All fun and games until you have to wake up and be Mommy the next day. You guys, I'm getting too old for these shenanigans and by shenanigans, I mean staying up past 10. But anyway…

You know I just love a room with two twin beds, and these, well, these are just another level of design yumminess. I mean really, two beds AND two lights? I'm in love.

[color kreyv]: Pink & Red

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day? Whaaaat? We're exhausted over at this place. I haven't seen Mr. Hubs since Monday morning, and I haven't coherently seen him since Sunday night. Did that make sense? Probably not. But, then again, neither did me trying to turn on the garbage disposal by walking across the room and turning on the kitchen light. No idea where that little craziness came from. And, I have no idea why my husband's long hours make ME tired. I probably shouldn't tell him that. My point in all of this is that I hope we have nothing to do on Valentine's Day, except be together, that is.  That...would be awesome.

What Color Are You?

I've always thought color psychology to be very interesting. When I was 12 or 13, I went to girls camp, and there was a presentation about color. I tried to be a yellow...the fun color, but CLEARLY I'm a red. Clearly. This post on House of Fifty was about being drawn to certain colors and what it may say about our personality. I thought it was super interesting, and hey, if being drawn to white, black, and gray means that I'm conservative, honorable, reliable, individualistic, innocent, disciplined, and strong-willed aka boring, I'll take it. Fortunately, there are no negative adjectives on any color, so it's pretty much a feel-good exercise! So, what color(s) are you drawn to, and does this describe you?

[color kreyv]: Red

You all know I'm scared of red, but it's definitely done right in these interiors. I'm going to have to get used to a little more red in my life, because the hubs just got a fellowship offer from the University of Utah! After eight years, we're going back to Utah! But, don't worry, we still prefer BYU blue! Check out our big announcement here.

[color kreyv]: Red & Pink

Are red and pink not the quintessential colors for Valentine's Day? And, I have to say, they look good together in a room. (Minus the red for me. You know I'm scared of red.) Valentine's Day is less than a week away. Seriously? It's going to be summer before we know it. I decided We established early on in our marriage that Valentine's Day is a girl holiday. Don't get me wrong. I'm not opposed to getting my husband gifts, and I am AWESOME in that department, but when it comes to V-Day, girls are really the ones who love to be spoiled. Chocolates, flowers, and all of that froo froo stuff is just not appreciated by men. So I say, why waste Godiva, roses, and diamonds when they're happy with a bag of peanut M&Ms and having control over the remote? Know what I mean?

[color kreyv]: Red & Turquoise

I think we can all agree that turquoise is the new black. If you don't agree with me, well then, you're wrong. Just kidding. Kind of. Ok, you are wrong. Turquoise goes with pretty much everything, and even I, who am afraid of red, love the combination of turquoise and red. I like it best when the turquoise is subtle and the red is used sparingly. I still don't know if I would take the plunge and buy red, but I might...but only for the house. Never buying it for my bod. Just. Can't. Do. It.

[color kreyv]: Red & White

Last day of November today...do you have your Christmas decorations up?  If not, here are some pictures that will get you in the Christmas spirit.  Don't you just wish you could paint your walls red for the month of December? Yeah.  Probably not a good idea.  I'm not even going to mention that one out loud.  I can tell you right now that the hubs would not even think that was one bit funny.  Not even a little bit.  Maybe I'll go for a red couch instead.

The Bold & the Beautiful

I'm talking about bold and beautiful furniture, not the soap, which, for the record, I've never watched a daytime soap. They are too much, even for me. I'm into the good stuff that's on Bravo instead! But, back to the bold furniture. It is major, and once again, I am in love (especially with the blue sofa)! It makes a statement, but not an "in your face" statement. Perfect. Bold. Beautiful.

[color kreyv]: Red, White, & Blue

I'm from Utah, and in Utah, red, white, and blue last the entire month of July. Utah's birthday is on July 24th, so that means more fireworks, more parades, and more red, white, and blue! I like it that way, because I love celebrating Independence Day, and this way, you can stretch it out all month!

I miss going home to my hometown of Delta, Utah. Delta has THE best celebration. They have the best parade (all the salt water taffy you can eat--um, yum), park festivities, people, derby, and fireworks. Delta, Utah: the little town that triples in size on the Fourth of July.

Color in the Kitchen

I've been back from my Utah trip for a week now. Vacationing is always rough on the good exercise and diet regime. In fact, my vacation habits crept into my normal life, and quite frankly, I've eaten like crap for too long. You know those days when you wake up at six in the morning already craving chocolate? Yeah, it was one of those weeks.

Jeremy bought Skinny Cow Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwiches (to die for). Skinny Cow, you say? Good, then I can have two. Carmel popcorn at ten in the morning? Why not? We'll call it brunch, even though you've already eaten breakfast, and you will still eat lunch. On your way home, you say? Sure, pick me up a Heath Blizzard. Of course, to make things more challenging, I have to eat these things when Stella isn't watching. I mean, I would never let her eat like that!

Seriously, people, it's time to take control! It's back to routines and health(ier) food. Really, if I could just get this whole moderation thing under control, I'd be fine! It's a great goal, and I'm going to do it starting tomorrow...

[color kreyv]: Red

It's been said that red is associated with love, passion, blood, aggression, anger, energy, strength, and power. Regardless of what is says to you, there is one thing for sure: Red is a very emotionally intense color, and it definitely gets attention! I have never been one to shy away from attention, but I'm not a red person.
We have four red things in our house: my red trench, my red stilettos, Stella's red peasant shirt, and Stella's red dress. That's it (not counting the ketchup in the fridge). Jeremy and I have the wrong complection, and well, Stella wears whatever I like (at least for now). I did wear a red dress to my Senior Ball...every girl wants to be "The Lady in Red," right? But, let's be honest, that was years ago, and I didn't analyze everything to death back then! Or, perhaps I was a little bit more tan, which is more likely to be the case!
I don't hate red. I admire people who can wear red lipstick, red heels are in a category all to themselves, and I like these red rooms. I think the key to a great red room is to go with a shade that leans more toward orange than purple. It looks clean and sophisticated...on other people!
